Filming with GoPro Hero 10: Constitution Marsh & Little Stony Point

I recently purchased the new GoPro Hero 10 Black with the intent to do some on the go filming while hiking or traveling (what is traveling?). I ended up using it mainly for filming my kids, however when my friend and I recently decided we wanted to do a hike and some photography, this was the best time to test the filming capabilities of the Hero 10. All the footage on the ground was filmed in 5.3K 30FPS, linear, high bitrate and standard Hypersmooth. The audio was captured with a Sennheiser MKE200 with the wind muff on and connected to GoPro’s 3.5mm audio adapter. The video was then edited in LumaFusion on the iPad Pro 12.9″ and rendered as 4K.

Thoughts: The Hero 10 performed pretty well throughout when there was good light. My setup was lightweight, which is great when lugging other gear in my backpack. As you can see in the video, towards later in the day (Little Stony Point), the footage gets a bit grainy when the light is low (chapter linked above). I will have to plan ahead if I ever film in low light conditions, maybe bring my DJI Pocket 2 along, or turn off Hypersmooth, hold off the coffee and be real steady.

Hike: Constitution Marsh and Little Stony Point are hikes in the Hudson Valley area near Cold Spring, NY. They are fairly simple hikes. Parking at these 2 locations can be a pain at peak times. Although these 2 hikes aren’t as challenging as nearby Breakneck Ridge, there are certain charms to Constitution Marsh and Little Stony Point. I would definitely bring my children along the next time I visit either of these hikes.
