I finally have some time to edit this hike video after finishing all the recent trip videos. During my February trip to Lake Placid, I decided to wake up early, hop in the car and do the short drive over to Tupper Lake (35 mins from where I was staying) to complete the Tupper Lake Triad… my version. During the summer, when my family and I visited Tupper Lake, I was able to hike Mount Arab and Coney Mountain. I left Goodman Mountain out as I saw conflicting reports on whether the trail was open or closed due to the moose situation.
Anyways, before I did this hike, I checked with the hiking groups online and confirmed the trail conditions. I knew there was a ton of snow in the area, and just needed to make sure whether I had to bring snowshoes or not. A few people had confirmed the trail was well broken in so I left the snowshoes home.
Goodman Mountain is approximately 3 miles round trip. It took me about 30 minutes from the trail head to the summit. With the amount of snow and the trail condition, it was an extra easy hike. Not that this hike was supposed to be hard, the snow conditions on the trail actually made it very enjoyable. It was serene and tranquil, especially since I was the only person there.
Once I got to the summit, I was greeted with a nice view of snow covered trees, and mountains. Its pretty cool to get a chance to do a hike like this first thing in the morning with the mountain all to myself. The solitude is relaxing. I took a break, ate 2 granola bars and went about looking for a composition for a photo. It was when I took my drone out and about to fly it that I realized I had messed up. When I upgraded my phone, I forgot to switch the lightning cable to the USB-C cable on the Mini 2’s remote. Boo. I was looking forward to fly around and take in the view of the snow covered mountains too :(.
For this hike, I am filming with the new DJI Action 6 (keep in mind this video was filmed in February). I upgraded my camera from the GoPro Hero 10. In terms of functions, the Action 6 felt very familiar. I do use the Pocket 2 as well, so a lot of the menus were similar. I have since put the Action 6 through its paces and its been a solid performer.
