Hiking High Banks Preserve With Fujifilm X100VI

Like most people who purchased a Fujifilm X100VI when it first came out, I used it mainly as a family camera. It was nice to just have a minimal and compact setup for everyday moments in life and with the kids. On a recent getaway with my wife, I decided to just take the bare minimum on the hike at High Banks Preserve. I had to fit everything in the Peak Design 3L Everyday Sling. I took an extra X100VI battery, 2 extra GoPro Endure batteries, 1 extra SD card for the GoPro and a DJI Mini 2 with battery inside the drone + controller. The GoPro Hero 10 + setup, would just be handheld or if anything, strapped outside the sling with the provided straps.

While the hike wasn’t technical or difficult, I really enjoyed that I didn’t have to lug around a tripod, a camera with 2 lens and all the other extra accessories that I usually bring. There are times when I wouldn’t mind bringing all the gear, but for simple hikes like High Banks Preserve, it really wasn’t necessary.

The path we took: From the parking lot, we took the red trail. Then when the red trail splits with the white trail, we hung right and stayed on the white trail for the entire length of it as it becomes a lollypop. After doing the lollypop, we took the purple trail all the way to the end of it. Then right turn and stayed on the red trail towards Esopus Lake. When we were done with the lake, we back tracked a little bit and did a sharp right turn to go up the yellow trail. Stay on the yellow trail until it ends and then right turn back to the red trail and continue down back to the parking lot.
