Mount Yale – 14er – Collegiate Peaks – Colorado

This was recorded almost a year ago, July 2019, (procrastination FTW!) during my friend’s bachelor party from hell. We city slickers from NYC flew into Denver after work. Landed late, slept even later, then proceeded to go on our supply run the next day for the hike to come. We woke up at 3AM, got ready quick, drove 3 hours and arrived at the Mt. Yale trailhead. For most of us, it was our first 14er with a little over a day of acclimation. We had a local in our group and he was hustling us.

For most of us, it was our first 14er with a little over a day of acclimation. We had a local in our group and he was hustling us. Our group started out as 6, but as we reached 11000-12000 ft of elevation, 2 decided to drop out. Time wasn’t on our side. Our pace was slow, the bachelor was dying with altitude sickness, but fought through. We reached ~13000+ ft and saw storm clouds at a distance even though the day had been a great day. At our pace, it would have taken too long to summit and we decided to turn back after enjoying the magnificent view over a celebratory beer (not recommended if you feel altitude sickness).

Note: I usually edit with a Windows 10 laptop and VEGAS Pro 16, but for this video I used an iPad Pro 12.9 and Premiere Rush. I don’t do complicated editing with my videos in the first place, so the iPad should be adequate. The challenge was to do EVERYTHING with the iPad, which I was able to for the most part. I used a USB-C hub to transfer my video files from the microSD. The thing about iPad is, editing the clips require the actual clip be saved into the internal storage… the only way I am able to do that was to edit the video in 2 parts (or pay Apple’s notorious storage tax on their devices), delete the project and then combine the 2nd part after. It’s definitely not ideal. There’s likely some degrading of the video quality. Hopefully Apple allows editing with external sources in the upcoming updates… that is if they want to keep advertising iPad Pros as laptop replacements.
